Learners come from a variety of socio-cultural, political and economic background with diverse learning experiences. It is therefore important to consider the information shared by pre-school providers, parents and other professionals to meet the needs of each child as effectively as possible. Assessment is the key in helping students improve their outcome. The knowledge of students’ progress helps review, update and implement strategies for the efficacious transfer of knowledge.

Assessment of Learning

AoL is the summative assessment that takes place after the completion of a portion and indicate the student’s learning outcome. It is usually adult directed, and it’s aimed at measuring the learning achievements.

Assessment for Learning

AFl is the formative assessment happening at the time of learning and ‘is a process of seeking and interpreting evidence to be used by learners and their teachers to decide where the learners are (in their learning), where they need to go, and how to get there.’

Foundation Stage classroom reflects a culture of open communication, positive relationships and risk taking. It is important to view teaching and learning, and assessment as a continuous cycle; assessment is not an end point but an integral part of the learning process.

Assessment Techniques and Strategies

Teachers use different assessment techniques depending on the age group to suit the nature or the style of the learning. It includes:

  1. Independent
  2. Group task
  3. Discussion
  4. Interaction
  5. Oral, written, or visual presentation
  6. Physical demonstration
  7. And the purpose of assessment

The assessment areas are broken down into specific areas of learning. Your child will be given an achievement level for each area of learning.
