APS GAVEL CLUB

Gavel Club is the Toastmasters Club for people below the age of 18. The Toastmasters International (TMI) is a worldwide organisation for leadership and communication training.

Gavel clubs are a way of providing the Toastmasters experience to students who may be ineligible for regular Toastmasters membership due to age factor. Following the similar club meeting protocols of Toastmasters, Gavel clubs use club officer titles and education manuals as in TMI. Gavel club members are referred to as “gaveliers.”

WHO CAN JOIN A GAVEL CLUB

  • Students from grade 6 onwards are eligible to join the Gavel Club. However a grade 5 student will be allowed to be a member on special request and on exceptional ground.
  • Only interested students should join the APS Gavel Club.
  • A candidate should not be above 18 years.
  • Must have the approval or endorsement of the parents and the Principal.
  • Should agree to undergo public speaking and leadership training as guided by the Toastmasters International programmes and procedures.

To help pupils discover the leadership potentials and communication abilities already existing in them and use the potentials for the benefit of the society and transform them into great leaders of tomorrow.

MISSION

To facilitate an environment suitable for enabling the Apsians (Students of APS) to participate, individually and in group, and to train themselves for becoming efficacious communicators and leaders.

AIMS

  • To discover, develop and groom the qualities of leadership already existing
  • To help understand the value of ones’ own thought process and practical implications
  • To enhance communication skills
  • To develop the personality through sharing of ideas, knowledge and skills
  • To enable an individual to face the world confidently and positively.

OBJECTIVES

  • Improve oral expression and thoughts.
  • Develop confidence and ability to speak in public.
  • Obtain instruction and experience in the organisation and conduct of meetings.
  • Promote the habit of analytical listening.
  • Assist each other through constructive evaluation.
  • Develop capacity for leadership.
  • Promote good fellowship among men and women.
  • Advance mutual understanding through more effective communication.
  • Foster and encourage "Better Listening, Thinking and Speaking."
  • Conquer one’s fears and improve oneself.
  • Overcome nervousness when speaking before an audience.
  • Organize and present ideas logically and convincingly.
  • Listen and appreciate others’ ideas.
  • Participate in and lead group discussion or meetings.
  • Offer advice to help others improve their speaking and leadership skills.
  • Enhance emotional quotient.
